Mark Deke McGee started playing Saxophone at the age of Twelve, after hearing Bill Doggetts 'Honky Tonk' played by the legendary Clifford Scott. He began studying the sound and the stylings of all the great Rhythm n Blues horn men of that era ; Honkers and Bar-Walkers such as Lee Allen, Sil Austin, Red Prysock, Big Al Sears, Joe Houston, Sam 'the man' Taylor and the great Texas Tenor King Curtis. He began working as a sideman with
bands all over Europe and North America at many Jazz and Blues Festivals.
This saw him both sharing the stage and opening up for names such as Ray
Charles, Buddy Guy, Van Morrison, Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, Chuck Berry's
piano man Johnnie Johnson, Big Joe Turner, Charlie Musselwhite, With Deke McGee the sound of the old style Honkin sax player is alive and well, paying homage to the unknown Bar-walkers who tore up the stage with their legendary show stopping Tenor Sax Battles'.
